Adrian's Teaching Practicum
Adrian believes that all artists have the capability to produce their best, authentic work by themselves––teaching is about creating a space where artists can learn to authentically express themselves freely without the burden of grades or expectations. The artist has everything they need––we just need to tap into our own potential.

At the college level, Adrian teaches Rhetoric (RHET:1030), a gen-ed course on "the art of persuasion". Students must reflect on how rhetoric is used in daily life, how to analyze rhetorical concepts, and implement their own rhetorical strategies through papers, speeches, and a creative final project

Adrian's current teaching assignment. Under loose guidelines, he organizes lesson plans to teach college freshman the subject of argumentative writing, oral speech, and rhetorical analysis and debate.

His class is structured with four major formal assignments: two papers, a speech, and one creative project. Each assignment builds off the learning outcomes of the previous one to ensure thorough comprehension.

Adrian co-taught this after-school and summer playwriting intensive for 4th - 6th graders to better
understand playwriting, theater, and new play development. Adrian assisted students in writing and developing six-minute plays with an emphasis on having a clear conflict and "change in feeling". At the culmination of the program, these plays were produced by professional actors for two public performances.

In this 2-week playwriting workshop, students learn to trust their authentic writing impulse through creative exercises and discussions on craft. We start with writing short scenes and monologues, hearing them aloud, and practicing revisions. The workshop culminates in a brand new student-written one-act play, which is workshopped with the class.

Under the guidance of Professor Scott Bradley, Adrian helped to "decolonize" the history of theater. By studying texts written by the historically oppressed or marginalized, this class taught the idea that "history is written by the victors" and often asked students to consider "does theater influence history, or does history influence theater?" Spoiler alert, the answer is yes, and!
